National Nutrition Agency (Badan Gizi Nasional, BGN) is pushing for the integration of nutrition education into the national school curriculum to cultivate a generation of healthy, intelligent, and globally competitive Indonesians. This initiative aims to provide structured and integrated nutrition education within the school environment to develop a comprehensive understanding of nutrition from an early age. Ikeu Tanziha, a member of BGN’s Nutrition Expert Council, emphasized the importance of nutrition education in schools, stating that it is essential in helping children grow up healthy, think critically, and contribute meaningfully to the nation. The proposed curriculum includes topics such as basic nutritional concepts, food group classification, nutrient roles, and the impacts of unhealthy eating habits. By educating students about the importance of a balanced diet and equipping them with practical skills like cooking and gardening, the curriculum aims to promote healthier lifestyle choices and prevent diet-related illnesses like obesity and diabetes. BGN is actively working on educational initiatives, including social media outreach and promotion of the Free Nutritious Meals Program, while calling on stakeholders to support the integration of nutrition education into the school curriculum. The goal is to create a synergistic relationship between schools, families, and communities, towards realizing Indonesia’s Golden Generation 2045.
