European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced a new visa policy that will make it easier for Indonesian citizens to enter the European Union. The new policy allows Indonesians who are making their second visit to the EU to be eligible for a multi-entry Schengen visa. This announcement was made during a press conference at the Berlaymont Building in Brussels, in the presence of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. Von der Leyen emphasized that the visa policy aims to strengthen long-term ties between Indonesia and the EU, particularly in areas such as education, investment, and social exchange.
The President highlighted the importance of the people-to-people connections pillar in the EU-Indonesia strategic partnership, stating that the new visa policy is designed to build bridges between the two nations. President Prabowo welcomed the deepening of ties between the EU and Indonesia, emphasizing the significance of trust and shared values in fostering long-term relationships. He expressed his hope that the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) would soon be finalized and signed in Brussels, further enhancing the partnership between the two regions.
With the implementation of the new visa policy and the strengthening of economic cooperation, Indonesia and the European Union are entering a new phase in their bilateral relations. This phase is marked by increased openness, strategic collaboration, and mutual benefits for the citizens of both Indonesia and the EU.
