President Prabowo Subianto recently expressed his confidence in Indonesia’s ability to achieve net-zero carbon emissions according to schedule, positioning the country as a frontrunner in reaching this significant milestone. During a virtual conference focusing on the inauguration of renewable energy development and oil production expansion in East Java, Prabowo emphasized Indonesia’s proficiency in energy generation and streamlining logistics. He stressed the importance of energy independence in realizing the nation’s vision for sovereignty, unveiling a strategy that includes the establishment of 55 new renewable energy projects, such as geothermal power plants, to deliver clean, reliable, and efficient energy throughout the archipelago.
Prabowo also recognized the collaborative efforts of various ministries, regulatory bodies, and energy companies like Medco Energi and ExxonMobil in supporting Indonesia’s energy transition. Despite the abundance of oil and gas reserves in the country, he underscored the critical role of renewable energy sources, particularly solar power, in ensuring self-sufficiency in energy supply for communities nationwide. The president expressed confidence in Indonesia’s future prospects, highlighting solar energy as a beacon of hope for villages, districts, regencies, and remote islands.
