Jakarta – Thousands of village kiai from various Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Banyuwangi have shown their strong support for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates number 02, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, with a strong commitment to win them in the first round of the 2024 Presidential Election. The gatherings and declarations of support have reaffirmed their loyalty to the candidates.
One of the largest gatherings took place at the Ibnu Sina Islamic Boarding School in Genteng, Banyuwangi on Wednesday (10/1/2024), attended by over a thousand village kiai. The event was titled “National Gathering of Village Kiai with Gibran Rakabuming Raka” and became an important momentum to strengthen the support for Prabowo-Gibran.
According to Kiai Masykur Ali, the caretaker of Ibnu Sina Islamic Boarding School, a victory for Prabowo-Gibran in Banyuwangi will be a reflection of victory for the entire Indonesia.
“Prabowo-Gibran will definitely win. Win in one round. Prabowo-Gibran will definitely win,” said Kiai Masykur, greeted by enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Kiai Masykur also highlighted the importance of the promised Pesantren Endowment Fund program by the Prabowo-Gibran pair.
“If Mas Gibran becomes Vice President, he will implement the mandate of the law, which is the Pesantren Endowment Fund,” he said, welcomed with enthusiasm by the audience.
Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the running mate number 2, thanked the warm welcome from the kiai. He emphasized the importance of the role of Islamic boarding schools in preparing the golden generation of Indonesia.
“We want Islamic boarding school students to be experts in fields such as AI, IoT, Islamic banking, and other fields needed by the industry,” said Gibran.
In addition, a declaration of support was also held at the Jagat Solawat Islamic Boarding School, in Krajan Bagorejo Village, Srono District, attended by several prominent kiai and religious figures from Banyuwangi. They reaffirmed their commitment to win Prabowo-Gibran and to carry out the election without black campaigns.
Wahyu Dwi Hermawan, the Coordinator of the Peran 02 Banyuwangi, stated that the Peran 02 volunteers are ready to win the votes and to make sure the victory of Prabowo-Gibran in Banyuwangi.
“We have prepared teams to reach every corner of the village to convince the people that Mr. Prabowo and Mas Gibran will win convincingly,” he said.
